Your Role

As the Mechanical Design Supervisor within our organization, you will lead and motivate our talented team of four Mechanical Designers. Reporting to the Production Director, you will plan and coordinate design projects by effectively managing departmental resources. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining a high level of excellence while ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within technical and budgetary requirements.

You will also establish and maintain strong working relationships with the Production Department, ensuring that designs are seamlessly integrated into the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise technical projects: Manage the Mechanical Design Department and oversee a team of four (4) designers.

  • Monitor project schedules and budgets: Ensure accurate tracking of timelines and budgets to maintain efficient project execution.

  • Guide and support the design team: Provide clear direction, coaching, and constructive feedback to help the team achieve high-quality results.

  • Review and approve design plans: Ensure the quality, accuracy, and compliance of designs produced by the team, meeting company standards and project requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement: Enhance departmental processes, procedures, and work methods to improve efficiency and performance.

  • Analyze, design, and oversee projects: Conduct detailed project analyses, develop innovative design solutions, and supervise project execution.

  • Plan and manage team schedules: Work closely with the Production Director to establish team schedules and ensure adherence to project plans.

  • Measure departmental performance: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the Design Department.

What We’re Looking For

  • College diploma or university degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Additional training in team management is considered a strong asset.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks. Experience with AutoCAD is an asset.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively address complex design challenges.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English, enabling clear communication within the team and with clients and suppliers.

  • Proven leadership abilities, with the capacity to guide, inspire, and support team development.

  • Creative design mindset with the flexibility to adapt to various styles and project-specific requirements.

  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
